Xylella Diseases

Crop diseases caused by the xylem-dwelling bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, which blocks the water vessels of grapevine, citrus, olive and other plants. A disease belongs here when its cited article names Xylella as the causal bacterium. The bacterium is carried from plant to plant by sap-feeding insects such as sharpshooters and spittlebugs, so the spread of the disease follows the range and movement of its insect vectors. There is no cure for infected plants, and management relies on vector control, removal of infected plants and quarantine. This heading gathers the Xylella diseases of the atlas so a visitor can compare their hosts.
