Sir John Gilmour, 2nd Baronet

Lieutenant Colonel Sir John Gilmour, 2nd Baronet, born May 27, 1876, and died March 30, 1940, was a Scottish Unionist politician best known for serving as Home Secretary from 1932 to 1935, and who represented East Renfrewshire and then Glasgow Pollok in Parliament. He was Minister of Agriculture from 1931 to 1932, having earlier served as Secretary for Scotland and then as the first holder of the elevated post of Secretary of State for Scotland from 1926 to 1929, and he later served as Minister of Shipping at the start of the Second World War. He served in the Second Boer War and the First World War with the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, earning the Distinguished Service Order with bar, and died in office of a heart attack in 1940.
