Noel Buxton, 1st Baron Noel-Buxton

Noel Edward Noel-Buxton, 1st Baron Noel-Buxton, born January 9, 1869, and died September 12, 1948, was a British politician who represented Whitby and then Norfolk North in Parliament, first as a Liberal and from 1919 as a Labour member, and who maintained a significant focus on Balkan affairs throughout his career. He served twice as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, from January to November 1924 and again from June 1929 to June 1930, both times under Ramsay MacDonald's Labour governments, and was the first agriculture minister to put agricultural co-operation at the forefront of his programme and to appoint marketing officers. He was created Baron Noel-Buxton in 1930 and founded the Noel Buxton Trust in 1919, which helped fund what became the Save the Children Fund.
