Michael Jopling, Baron Jopling

Thomas Michael Jopling, Baron Jopling, born December 10, 1930, is a British Conservative politician with a parliamentary career spanning more than three decades who served in various ministerial positions under Margaret Thatcher. He was Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 1983 to 1987, a role that defined much of his ministerial work and drew on his earlier career as a farmer and member of the National Farmers Union's national council, having previously served as Chief Whip and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury. He represented Westmorland, later Westmorland and Lonsdale, from 1964 until his retirement from the Commons in 1997, and was created a life peer the same year.
