Michael Andrew Gove, born August 26, 1967, in Aberdeen, Scotland, is a British politician and former journalist who worked at The Times before entering Parliament in 2005 as MP for Surrey Heath. Appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs by Theresa May following the 2017 general election, he announced a ban on plastic microbeads to take effect by the end of 2017, backed a ban on new fuel-combustion vehicle sales by 2040, introduced one of the toughest ivory trade bans in the world, and sponsored the Wild Animals in Circuses Bill in 2019.
