Mary Elizabeth Truss, born July 26, 1975, is a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from September to October 2022, the shortest tenure of any British prime minister, resigning after fifty days in office. Before reaching Downing Street she served as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from July 2014 to July 2016, during which she established a food crime unit in response to the 2013 horse meat scandal, approved planning permission for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, and developed the Flood Re insurance scheme for flood-prone homes.
