John MacGregor, Baron MacGregor of Pulham Market

John Roddick Russell MacGregor, Baron MacGregor of Pulham Market, born February 14, 1937, is a British Conservative politician who represented South Norfolk in Parliament for twenty seven years and served in several Cabinet posts under Margaret Thatcher and John Major. He was Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 1987 to 1989, a tenure that included the onset of the BSE crisis, before moving on to serve as Secretary of State for Education and Science, Leader of the House of Commons and Secretary of State for Transport, where he oversaw the privatisation of British Rail. He was created a life peer as Baron MacGregor of Pulham Market in 2001 and retired from the House of Lords in 2019.
