Gillian Patricia Shephard, Baroness Shephard of Northwold, born January 22, 1940, is a British Conservative politician who represented South West Norfolk in Parliament from 1987 to 2005 after earlier careers as a schoolteacher and education inspector for Norfolk County Council. She was Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from May 1993 to July 1994, succeeding John Gummer, having earlier served as Secretary of State for Employment, and she went on to serve as Secretary of State for Education and then Education and Employment. Following the Conservative defeat in 1997 she held shadow portfolios under William Hague and later received a life peerage as Baroness Shephard of Northwold.
