David Lindsay, 27th Earl of Crawford

David Alexander Edward Lindsay, 27th Earl of Crawford and 10th Earl of Balcarres, born October 10, 1871, and died March 8, 1940, was a British Conservative politician, art connoisseur and distinguished book collector who held numerous government positions during and after the First World War. He served as President of the Board of Agriculture from July to December 1916 under H. H. Asquith, before going on to serve as Lord Privy Seal, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, First Commissioner of Works and Minister of Transport. He represented Chorley in Parliament from 1895 to 1913 and later served as Chancellor of the University of Manchester.
