Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar, born December 12, 1940, in Baramati, Maharashtra, is an Indian politician who has served in the Rajya Sabha since 2014 after a long earlier career in the Lok Sabha. He served as India's Union Minister of Agriculture in the Manmohan Singh government from May 2004 to May 2014, the longest tenure of any Indian agriculture minister, having earlier served as Minister of Defence under P. V. Narasimha Rao. He also served four terms as Chief Minister of Maharashtra between 1978 and 1995, founded the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999 after splitting from the Indian National Congress, and served as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India from 2005 to 2008 and of the International Cricket Council from 2010 to 2012.
