Sardar Buta Singh, born March 21, 1934, and died January 2, 2021, was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress who served as Union Home Minister from 1986 to 1989 under Rajiv Gandhi. Before that appointment he held the portfolio of Union Cabinet Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development from 1984 to 1985 and then Agriculture Minister alone from 1985 to 1986. He later served as Governor of Bihar from 2004 to 2006 and chaired the National Commission for Scheduled Castes from 2007 to 2010, and died in New Delhi from complications of a cerebral hemorrhage.
