Chaudhary Ajit Singh, born February 12, 1939, in Bhadola village near Meerut, and died May 6, 2021, from COVID-19 complications, was an Indian politician and farmer leader, the son of former Prime Minister Charan Singh, who trained as an engineer at IIT Kharagpur and the Illinois Institute of Technology and worked at IBM for fifteen years before entering politics. He founded the Rashtriya Lok Dal in 1996 as a regional party rooted in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan dedicated to farmers' rights, and held Union ministries including Industry from 1989 to 1990, Food from 1995 to 1996, Agriculture from 2001 to 2003 and Civil Aviation from 2011 to 2014, representing Baghpat in the Lok Sabha across several terms between 1989 and 2014.
