Agriculture Ministers and Government Officials

Charles James Mayer, born April 21, 1936, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and died April 29, 2025, in Winnipeg, was a Canadian farmer, agrologist and businessman who served as federal Minister of Agriculture. Before entering Parliament he was president of the Manitoba Beef Growers Association, and he represented the Manitoba riding of Portage-Marquette, later Lisgar-Marquette, as a Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament from 1979 to 1993. His ministerial roles included Minister of State for the Canadian Wheat Board and Minister of State for Grains and Oilseeds before he became Minister of Agriculture, positions that directly drew on his farming background and industry leadership.
