Frederick Stewart

Sir Frederick Harold Stewart, born August 14, 1884, in Newcastle, New South Wales, and died June 30, 1961, in St Leonards, Sydney, was an Australian businessman and politician whose political career focused on establishing a national insurance scheme and reducing working hours to address social conditions during the Great Depression, often against his own party's wishes. He served as Minister for Commerce from October 1932 to November 1934 under Prime Minister Joseph Lyons, holding responsibility for trade policy before stepping down so the Country Party could enter the ministry, and he was succeeded in the role by Earle Page.
