Qu Dongyu, born October 29, 1963, is a Chinese diplomat who became the ninth Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on August 1, 2019, the first Chinese national to hold the position. He won the nomination on the first round of voting at the 41st FAO Conference on June 23, 2019, receiving 108 of 191 votes cast by 194 member countries. Before leading the FAO he served as vice-chair of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region from 2011 to 2015 and as China's Vice Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs from 2015 to 2019.
