Rao Birender Singh

Rao Birender Singh, born February 20, 1921, and died September 30, 2009, was an Indian politician from a Yaduvanshi Ahir royal family of Rewari who served as the second Chief Minister of Haryana in 1967 and as the state's first male Speaker of its legislative assembly the same year, credited with coining the phrase "Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram" to describe legislative floor-crossing. At the national level he served as Union Minister of Agriculture from 1980 to 1984 alongside portfolios in rural development, irrigation and civil supplies under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, and later as Minister of Food and Civil Supplies under Chandra Shekhar from 1990 to 1991. He died of cardiac arrest in Gurgaon, Haryana.
