Sadashiv Kanoji Patil, known as S. K. Patil, lived from 1898 to 1981 and was a veteran Indian freedom fighter, journalist and Indian National Congress leader from Maharashtra who served as a member of Parliament under Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi. He served as Union Minister of Food and Agriculture from August 1959, succeeding Ajit Prasad Jain, and later as Union Minister for Railways from 1964 to 1967. He was elected mayor of Bombay three times, earning the nickname "the uncrowned king of Bombay" for his patronage of the city's cultural institutions.
