Christopher Addison, 1st Viscount Addison, born June 19, 1869, and died December 11, 1951, was a British medical doctor and politician, described as perhaps the most eminent doctor ever to sit in the House of Commons, who served as Minister of Munitions during the First World War, Minister of Health under David Lloyd George, and Leader of the House of Lords under Clement Attlee. He became Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture in 1929 under Ramsay MacDonald and succeeded to Minister of Agriculture in June 1930, leaving office when MacDonald formed the National Government in 1931, in which Addison went into opposition and lost his parliamentary seat at the subsequent election.
