Peter James Nixon, born March 22, 1928, in Orbost, Victoria, and died May 1, 2025, was an Australian politician and businessman who represented the Division of Gippsland for the National Country Party in the House of Representatives from 1961 to 1983. He served as Minister for Primary Industry from 1979 to 1983 under Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, succeeding Ian Sinclair and preceding John Kerin, and in 1981 his portfolio was marked by a scandal over meat substitution in beef exports to the United States. He held several other ministries earlier in his career, including the Interior, Shipping and Transport, and Transport, and served as Postmaster-General in 1975.
