Peter John McGauran, born November 16, 1955, in Yallourn, Victoria, is an Australian former National Party politician who represented the Division of Gippsland from March 1983 to April 2008. He served as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry from 2005 to 2007, succeeding Warren Truss and preceding Tony Burke, and educated at Xavier College and the University of Melbourne, he worked as a barrister and solicitor before entering politics. He held several other ministerial roles across his career, including Science and Technology, the Arts, Science, and Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, before his appointment to the agriculture portfolio in July 2005.
