Earle Page

Sir Earle Christmas Grafton Page, born August 8, 1880, in Grafton, New South Wales, and died December 20, 1961, was an Australian surgeon and politician who led the Country Party from 1921 to 1939 and served briefly as the country's 11th prime minister in a caretaker capacity from April 7 to 26, 1939, following the death of Joseph Lyons. He served as Treasurer of Australia from 1923 to 1929 under Stanley Bruce and later as Minister for Commerce, a portfolio covering agriculture and trade policy, under Joseph Lyons from 1934 to 1939, during which he established the Australian Agricultural Council in December 1934 to coordinate agricultural policy between state and federal governments. He served in parliament for nearly 42 years before losing his seat in 1961.
