Lazaro Ferreira Barbosa was a Brazilian lawyer and politician born in Orizona, Goias, in 1938, who represented Goias in the National Congress. At nineteen he was named secretary general of the Petrolina de Goias city government, and in 1965 he became director of Goias's Department of Industry and Commerce on the recommendation of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). When the military dictatorship imposed a two party system he joined the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) and was elected senator for Goias in 1974. He later served as Goias's secretary of Mines and Energy under Governor Iris Rezende, and when Iris Rezende became Brazil's Minister of Agriculture in 1986, Barbosa served for three years as the ministry's secretary general. He was appointed Minister of Agriculture himself under President Itamar Franco from October 1992 to May 1993, and was elected a federal deputy in 1990. He died in Goiania in 2019.
