Robert McNab was a New Zealand lawyer, farmer, historian and Liberal Party politician, born 1 October 1864 near Invercargill and died 3 February 1917 in Wellington, who represented Mataura from 1893 and Hawkes Bay from 1914 until his death. He held the combined portfolios of Minister of Lands and Minister of Agriculture from 1906 to 1908, later serving as Minister of Justice, Marine and Stamp Duties from 1915, and is remembered today chiefly for his historical scholarship, publishing the Historical Records of New Zealand and donating some 4,200 history and geography volumes in 1913 that grew into the McNab New Zealand Collection at the Dunedin Public Library.
