Sir Alexander Lockwood Smith is a New Zealand politician of the National Party, born 13 November 1948 in Paparoa, who served as Minister of Education from 1990 to 1996 before taking the Agriculture portfolio in 1996. He went on to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2008 to 2013 and as High Commissioner of New Zealand to the United Kingdom from 2013 to 2017.
