Jim Sutton

Agriculture Ministers and Government Officials

James Robert Sutton is a New Zealand politician of the Labour Party, born 7 November 1941 in Reading, England, who served as Minister of Agriculture in two separate periods, from 9 February to 2 November 1990 under Prime Ministers Geoffrey Palmer and Mike Moore, and again from 10 December 1999 to 19 October 2005 under Helen Clark, when he simultaneously held the Rural Affairs, Biosecurity, Forestry and Trade Negotiations portfolios. A former Federated Farmers leader, he later served as Ambassador for Trade and chairman of the state-owned Landcorp, and was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2007.
