Luc Letellier de St-Just

Luc Letellier de Saint-Just was a Canadian politician and notary, born 12 May 1820 and died 28 January 1881. Appointed a charter member of the Senate of Canada in 1867, he became Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister of Agriculture in Alexander Mackenzie's cabinet, serving from 7 November 1873 to 14 December 1876. He was then appointed the third Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, a post in which he controversially dismissed the Conservative government of Premier Charles-Eugene Boucher de Boucherville in 1878 despite its legislative majority, and was himself dismissed from the lieutenant-governorship in 1879 after the incoming federal Conservative government under Sir John A. Macdonald pressed for his removal.
