Vito Saccomandi

Vito Saccomandi was an Italian agronomist and independent politician from Teramo who earned his degree in agricultural sciences from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in 1962 and became a tenured professor of agricultural market economics at the University of Perugia. He served as Minister of Agriculture and Forests from July 1989 to April 1991 in Giulio Andreotti's sixth government, one of the few agriculture ministers of the period to hold the post without belonging to a political party. He also founded Ce.S.A.R., a center for agricultural and rural development, and was honored as a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 1990.
