Mariano Ruiz-Funes Garcia

Mariano Ruiz-Funes Garcia was a Spanish legal scholar, criminal law professor and politician born in Murcia in 1889 and dying in exile in Mexico City in 1953. He served as Minister of Agriculture from February to July 1936 during the Second Republic, overseeing land settlement that placed roughly 111,000 peasant families onto more than half a million hectares. He later served briefly as Minister of Justice during the Spanish Civil War before going into exile in Mexico, where he continued his academic career at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
