Luis Maria Atienza is a Spanish economist, academic and politician who served as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from May 1994 to May 1996 under Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez, during which he restructured the ministry's agricultural guarantee funds and created new institutional frameworks for nature conservation. A member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and its Basque affiliate, he had previously served as economy counselor in the Basque regional government and taught economics at the University of Deusto. He was born in Trespaderne in 1957.
