Joaquin Benjumea Burin was a Spanish mining engineer, economist and politician born in Seville in 1878 and dying there in 1963. From an affluent agrarian family whose brother Rafael served as Minister of Public Works under Primo de Rivera, he served as president of Seville's provincial council and mayor of Seville before becoming Minister of Agriculture in August 1939, also taking interim charge of the Labor Ministry until May 1941. He then led the Treasury Ministry for a decade until 1951 and finished his career as governor of the Bank of Spain from 1951 until his death.
