Hans Christian Friedrich Schmidt is a German lawyer and politician of the Christian Social Union, born 26 August 1957, who served as Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture from 2014 to 2018 under Angela Merkel, providing emergency support to dairy farmers during a price collapse and managing the government response to avian flu outbreaks. He later served as the internationally appointed High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina from August 2021, implementing electoral and constitutional reforms that drew opposition from Russia and China and produced sustained tension with Bosnian Serb leadership over his executive decisions.
