Karl-Heinz Funke is a German politician and former teacher of the Social Democratic Party, born 29 April 1946, who served as Lower Saxony's state Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forests from 1990 to 1998 under Minister-President Gerhard Schroder. He became Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection under Chancellor Schroder from 27 October 1998, resigning on 12 January 2001 after an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, commonly known as mad cow disease, in German cattle herds, a crisis that also cost Federal Health Minister Andrea Fischer her post.
