Horst Lorenz Seehofer is a German politician of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria, born 4 July 1949, who entered the Bundestag in 1980 and served as Federal Minister for Health and Social Security from 1992 to 1998 under Helmut Kohl. He led the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection from 2005 to 2008 under Angela Merkel, then became Minister-President of Bavaria from 2008 to 2018 while also chairing the CSU, and later returned to federal government as Minister for the Interior, Building and Community under Merkel from 2018 to 2021, focusing on immigration policy.
