Hans-Peter Friedrich is a German politician of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria, born 10 March 1957, elected to the Bundestag in 1998 and named First Deputy Leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in 2009. He served as Federal Minister of the Interior from 2011 to 2013 under Angela Merkel, then as Minister of Food and Agriculture from December 2013 until February 2014, resigning amid an investigation into his alleged disclosure of state secrets from his earlier Interior Ministry tenure; he later served as a Bundestag vice president from 2017 to 2021 and retired from active politics at the end of the 2025 parliamentary term.
