Audu Innocent Ogbeh was a Nigerian farmer, playwright and politician, born 28 July 1947 in present-day Benue State, who served as Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2015 to 2019 under President Muhammadu Buhari. He was educated at King's College, Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, and the University of Toulouse in France, and began his career lecturing at Ahmadu Bello University before entering politics as Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in 1979 and later serving as Nigeria's Minister of Communications from 1982 to 1983 and as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2001 to 2005. As agriculture minister he implemented the Green Alternative, Nigeria's official Agricultural Promotion Policy launched in 2016, aimed at improving food security, creating jobs, reducing food imports and encouraging agribusiness investment, drawing on his own long personal involvement in cashew farming, poultry and rice milling. He died on 9 August 2025.
