Soil and Water Conservation Practices

Field-level practices that protect the soil surface and slow or capture water rather than letting it run off, including composting, contour farming, cover cropping, irrigation, no-till farming and terrace farming. Belongs here: any practice whose primary purpose is holding soil in place, rebuilding its fertility or delivering water to it. Does not belong here: a practice whose primary purpose is arranging what crops grow together or in sequence, grouped under Crop Diversification and Rotation Systems, even though rotation and cover cropping are often used together on the same field.
