A British breed of white-faced hill sheep, originating in and named for the Cheviot Hills in north Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. It is still common in that area of the United Kingdom, but is also found in north-west Scotland, Wales, Ireland and south-west England (especially Dartmoor and Exmoor), and more rarely in Australia, New Zealand, Norway and the United States.
