Cholistani Sheep

The Cholistani, locally called Buchi, is a breed of domestic sheep from Punjab, Pakistan, raised primarily for meat despite also producing wool. It has a black to brown head and ears set against a white body, small ears, and a notably long tail; mature rams average about 48.5 kg and ewes about 34 kg, with ewes producing an average litter size of 1.05 lambs and roughly 45 kg of milk over a 110-day lactation. The breed's recorded population fell sharply, from 275,964 animals in 1986 to 33,025 by 1996, reflecting changing agricultural practice in the region.
