A term used informally for at least eight breeds of domestic rabbit sharing a distinctive short, dense fur type. The best known is the Rex breed itself, recognized by both the American Rabbit Breeders Association and the British Rabbit Council, alongside several other modern-day rex rabbit breeds; the rabbit breeds carrying the rex name are distinct from the three separate types of rex fur for which they are known.
