Netherland Dwarf is a small rabbit breed developed in the Netherlands in the early twentieth century by crossing small wild rabbits with the Polish breed, aiming to fix the smallest possible body size. It is among the smallest recognized rabbit breeds, with a rounded body, short ears and a wide range of accepted coat colors. Because of its diminutive size, the Netherland Dwarf was used as foundation stock in developing several later dwarf and miniature breeds, including crosses that contributed to the Holland Lop and other small lop breeds. It is kept mainly as a pet and show breed rather than for meat or fur, and its small size and correspondingly short lifespan compared to larger breeds are noted considerations for prospective owners.
