Embden Goose

Embden Goose, also spelled Emden, is a large white domestic goose breed that takes its name from the German port city of Emden in Lower Saxony, from which it was historically exported, though similar white geese were also developed and interbred with English and Dutch stock as the breed took its modern form. It is one of the largest and heaviest standard goose breeds, entirely white plumaged with blue eyes and an orange bill and legs, bred primarily for meat and valued for rapid growth and a large carcass. Embden Goose has been widely used as foundation stock for commercial white goose meat production in Europe and North America, and it is also commonly crossed with other breeds to improve size and growth rate in commercial goose farming. It remains one of the most widely kept goose breeds worldwide, both commercially and as a farmyard and exhibition bird.
