The Bazna is a breed of domestic pig native to Transylvania in present-day Romania. Development began in 1872 by crossing Mangalitsa and Berkshire pigs, with later infusions of Yorkshire, Angler Sattelschwein, Wessex and Hampshire bloodlines, and the breed gained official recognition in 1958. It is mostly black with a white ring circling its trunk that starts at the shoulders and includes the forelimbs, a pattern that also earned it the name Romanian Saddleback. The breed spread across Transylvania and the Banat region, particularly after the Second World War.
