Plant-parasitic nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne, whose feeding makes galls or knots on roots and starves the plant of water and nutrients. A nematode belongs here when its cited article names it as a Meloidogyne species or a root-knot nematode. They infect an unusually wide range of crops, including vegetables, tobacco, cotton and many perennials, and are most damaging in warm regions and light soils where they survive the winter. Management uses crop rotation with non-host crops, resistant varieties, fallow and, where allowed, nematicides. This heading gathers the root-knot nematodes of the atlas so a visitor can compare their hosts and ranges.
