Antestiopsis

Antestiopsis is a genus of shield bugs in the family Pentatomidae, tribe Antestiini, described by Leston in 1952. Its species are commonly known as antestia bugs or variegated coffee bugs, and several are significant crop pests of coffee in eastern Africa. The insects feed on coffee flowers, berries and growing tips, injecting a toxic saliva that can carry fungal spores while they extract plant juices. Wounds and bacterial infections introduced by this feeding are associated with the potato taste defect that can spoil the flavor of affected coffee beans.
