Marwari Horse

The Marwari is a rare horse breed from the Marwar region of Rajasthan in north-west India, traditionally bred from the twelfth century by the Rathore Rajput rulers, with ancestry likely tracing to Rajput warhorses and later Turkoman horses introduced under the Mughals. It shares its distinctive inward-curving ears, sometimes touching at the tips, with the related Kathiawari breed, stands around 140 to 150 centimetres tall, and comes in all colours except a registrable white; it is prized for hardiness and a natural ambling gait. Marwaris are used for riding, light draught and agricultural work, and for dressage and polo, having historically served as cavalry mounts; the breeds conservation status was rated not at risk by the FAO in 2007 and by DAD-IS in 2020.
