An American breed of draft horse that derives from the draft horses of Belgium but became genetically distinct from them in the early twentieth century, a result of isolation and different selective breeding on the American side of the Atlantic. It is generally taller and less heavily built than its Belgian ancestors, and shows a very different distribution of coat colors.
