LaMancha Goat

Goats

Also known simply as the Lamancha or LaMancha goat, and formally the American Lamancha, a recognized breed of dairy goat first bred in California around 1927 by Eula Fay Frey, who later moved her herd to Glide, Oregon for further development. Lamanchas are perhaps the most distinctive of all goat breeds, instantly recognizable by their very short ear pinnae, and are valued as well for high milk production, comparatively high butterfat content, and an affectionate, people-oriented temperament; the short-eared American Lamancha first gained recognition as a distinct breed in the early 1950s and was formally registered on January 27, 1958, with about 200 animals accepted as its founding stock. It is the only breed of dairy goat developed in the United States, and though folklore tells of short-eared goats throughout history, there is no historical breed actually called the Spanish Lamancha.
