Also called the American Alpine, a North American breed of medium to large domestic goat of dairy type, which may be horned or polled and carries a straight facial profile with erect ears; various coat colorations are accepted while others are disallowed. It derives from Alpine and other goats, including the British Alpine, imported from Europe, and mature animals are expected to weigh at least 135 pounds (61 kilograms) and stand over 30 inches (760 millimeters) at the withers.
