Cochliobolus sativus

Cochliobolus sativus is the fungus whose asexual form, Bipolaris sorokiniana, is the causal agent of a wide variety of cereal diseases, infecting roots, leaves, stems and head tissue. Cochliobolus sativus itself is extremely rare in nature, so it is the asexual stage that actually causes infections; the two most common diseases it causes are spot blotch and common root rot, mainly in wheat and barley.
