Southern Corn Leaf Blight

Fungal Diseases of Crops

A fungal disease (Bipolaris maydis) that causes elongated tan lesions on maize leaves and, in its most virulent race, on stalks and ears. A strain adapted to the Texas male sterile cytoplasm widely used in United States hybrid seed production caused the 1970 corn blight epidemic, which destroyed roughly 15 percent of the national maize crop and remains a textbook warning about the risks of genetic uniformity in breeding.

Fungus, Concepts

Entity-backed identity for the agent-kind enum value this pest or disease already carries, resolved to an agriculture concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The agent-kind fact itself stays on the pest or disease unchanged.
